About this work
Scene based on the religious drama 'Thirza und ihre Söhne' in which Thirza prefers to sacrifice her sons rather than exchange Jahweh for Jupiter. Left stands Thirza with her youngest son Jedida. On the ground lie six dead sons and their uncle Joel. Right Selima begs Epiphanes (probably Antiochus IV Epiphanes), who stands before a statue of Jupiter, for the life of Jedida.
