About this work

Brückner, who has been absent for some time to obtain support for his marriage with Steinnin, sees a funeral procession pass by upon his return. He asks his friend Wilhelm who has died and falls from his horse in fright when it turns out to be the funeral of his fiancée. Brückner lies unconscious in the arms of Wilhelm; in the background the funeral procession with the coffin with the body of Steinnin. Numbered in the top right: 79 S.
