About this work
The body of Memnon lies on the pyre; the ashes turn into birds called the Memnonides. Memnon, the son of Aurora and Tithonus, was killed by Achilles. In the upper right, Aurora begs Jupiter to grant her son immortality. In the margin, a four-line inscription in two columns, in Latin.
