About this work
The infatuated Iphis hangs himself after Anaxarete repeatedly rejects him. Anaxarete turns to stone when she sees the dead body of her admirer. In the background, the funeral procession, with the body of Iphis on the bier. In the margin, a four-line inscription in two columns, in Latin.
