About this work
Aesculapius, the son of Apollo, receives the senate from Rome, who ask him for deliverance. The god holds a shepherd's staff in his left hand, around which a snake is coiled. He foretells to the senators that he will assume that form. In the margin, a four-line inscription in two columns, in Latin.
