About this work
Apollo is in love with the Spartan prince Hyacinthus and teaches him discus throwing. The jealous Zephyrus (the West Wind) throws the discus against Hyacinthus' skull, who then falls dead. Where his blood falls, a hyacinth sprouts from the earth. In the margin, a four-line inscription in two columns, in Latin.
