About this work

David shows, to the right, the head of Goliath, standing with one foot on a book and next to him a dead lion and bear. In the background, his victory over Goliath is visible. David grabs Goliath's sword to behead him. In the background, the Philistines flee, while Saul's soldiers to the right pursue them. Below the image, a title in Latin, four four-line verses in Dutch and a reference to the biblical text in 1 Sam. 17.
