Crowd in a street with taverns and a chapel

Two narrow streets with a view of St Giles in the Fields. In the district Soho, where many French refugees lived, French customs prevailed, such as kissing each other as a way of greeting and French fashion also determined the dress. The scene is divided in two by a gutter. The right half of the company is devout, the left part is devoted to pleasures such as eating and drinking. On the inn sign a head lies on a platter and on the pub sign only the body of a woman is depicted.
