About this work

In this fictional scene, English troops have gathered on Tottenham Court Road to march to Finchley to defend London against the Jacobite uprising of 1745, which sought to restore James II of the Scottish House of Stuart to the throne. The soldiers are mocked for their lack of training and respect for discipline. Text in English in the lower margin.
