About this work

Mercury kneels at the door to the vestibule where souls are piled up. He offers a hand to a soul to save him. On the left stands Daphne transformed into a tree with a tablet VIRTVS DESERTA. On a block of stone is the text VIRTVTI S.A.I. This is the lower half of a representation with an allegory on virtues and vices.
