About this work
On a clearing in a military camp near a fortress many soldiers watch how a man, bound to a stake, is shot dead by a firing squad. On the ground next to the stake already lie two corpses. Below the image a blank margin. This print is part of a series of 17 (18 including title print) prints with depictions of various kinds of miseries that warfare brings with it.
