About this work
On a clearing near a church and some houses on fire, many soldiers watch how a man, bound to a stake, dies on a pyre. Below the image a six-line French verse. This print is part of a series of 17 (18 including title print) prints with depictions of various kinds of miseries that warfare brings with it.
