About this work

Man, dressed in rags, seen from the right, his right arm in a sling, walking with a flag over his left shoulder bearing the words 'Capitano de Baroni'. In the background a procession of pilgrims and vagrants at a small church. This is the title print for a series of 24 prints depicting beggars and vagrants, as Callot probably saw in Italy.
