About this work

Leaf with 8 depictions of the story of Lambert Melisz. Lambert Melisz from Zaandam placed his old, lame mother on a sled in February 1574 and fled with her over the ice in the harsh cold. On the way, they were caught by the Spaniards. When the soldiers found the boy with his shivering mother hidden under blankets, they were so moved that the two were left unharmed. After a harsh journey, Lambert Meliszoon reached the gates of Hoorn safely with his mother. Below each image is a four-line verse. Marked top right: M.
