About this work
A ladder of old age: a double staircase. On the steps of the ladder, in the form of a bridge, stand men and women aged from 0 to 100 years. Under the bridge an allegorical representation of transience. On both sides of the scene a curtain. Under the scene a twelve-line verse in two columns. Numbered in the center above: No. 42.
