Allegory of the Papacy of Urban VIII

An angel supports the papal coat of arms of Pope Urban VIII. Next to it a woman with scepter, the personification of the Church, sitting on a fallen column, next to her right foot a stone with a chain attached. A putto flies in to crown the Church with the papal tiara. Above it fly angels, one with an inverted vase, one with a rock block and three bees and one with broken chains in his hands. A putto carries a scroll with the words: Dotalis eloquentia verbi sponsi. Another putto holds roses. Through flames from heaven the outpouring of the Holy Spirit or divine inspiration is depicted. The print refers to the eloquence of Pope Urban VIII and the blessings of his papacy.
