About this work

Clio, the muse of history, introduces a young man to the profession of history. She points him to the scene of history, where Fortune, standing on a globe, distributes her riches indiscriminately among people. Above floats Death with his scythe and Amor, who drops his arrows. Father Time reveals the scene by holding up the curtain. At the bottom of the margin, a six-line text in French.
