About this work

Middle plate of a print depicting the Crucifixion of Christ on Golgotha while bystanders watch. Under the cross lie Mary and Mary Magdalene, and several other women. The criminals are nailed to their crosses (Matthew 27:38). Christ is offered a sponge with sour wine (Matthew 27:48). Bottom left of the cross soldiers cast lots for the garment of Christ (Matthew 27:35). Far right a centurion points to Christ (Luke 23:47). The print has a Latin inscription.
