About this work

Workshop of a shoemaker, full of 'children' who read, fight, eat and drink. In the middle the shoemaker who is mending shoes and a spinning woman with spinning wheel in the right hand, a rod in the left hand. At her lap a child with reading book. Shoes hang on and stand on shelves against the back wall. Right a fireplace on which a print is fixed with the Crucifixion of Christ. With inscription in Dutch and French.
