About this work
The writer, humanist and historian Dirk Schrevel, latinised as Theodorus Schrevelius (1572-1649), at the age of 46. Bust to the left, booklet in the right hand, on which his age is stated: 46. He is dressed in a mantle with fur collar and wide pleated collar. The portrait is set in an ornamental oval frame with two allegorical figures and attributes referring to arts and sciences. In the middle top his family coat of arms. With six-line poem in Latin as caption in cartouche.
