About this work

Greed (Avaritia) in the guise of a woman is driven from the temple of the Muses by Hercules. On the left in the foreground sits Apollo with his lyre and behind him stands Minerva. They are surrounded by the Muses, including Euterpe with a flute and Melpomene with a mask.
