About this work

On the right sits the Roman emperor Nero on his throne. Before him the saints Peter and Paul. While a soldier is about to behead Paul, another soldier grabs Peter by his beard. Several bystanders look on and an angel flies in the sky. Behind Nero's throne a sculpture of Jupiter with an eagle.
