About this work
A hermit (Saint Jerome) sits under a tree and reads a book at a table, on which also stands an hourglass. In the shadow lies a cardinal's hat. Behind the tree a house and on the right various objects such as a rolled carpet, a book, a skull, a pot, and a crucifix.
