About this work
In the center stand Apollo with his lyre and Pan with his flute. Apollo had challenged Pan to a musical contest. The mountain god Tmolus sits between them as judge. Behind Tmolus stands Midas with two donkey ears. On the left are the Muses who formed the jury.
