About this work
Julius Civilis has his hair cut. He had sworn not to cut his hair until the Romans were defeated. His young son shoots with a bow and arrow at three Roman prisoners tied to a tree. A crowd of soldiers watches and makes music. In the background, the Roman fort (Castra Vetera) is set on fire. Inscription in Dutch and Latin.
