Exhausted Roman soldiers beg Civilis for mercy. Civilis, seated on a pair of chairs, grants them mercy on condition that they swear an oath of loyalty to the Netherlands. Print number 19 in the series of prints on the Batavian Revolt: Batavorum cum Romanis bellum / à Corn. Tacito lib.
