Dispute over the Holy Sacrament (Left Part)

Part of the fresco by Raphael in the Stanza della Segnatura representing supernatural truth. The fresco consists of two levels, heaven and earth. On both levels, a discussion is held regarding the Holy Sacrament or the Eucharist. Centrally, God the Father, Christ, and the Holy Spirit above an altar. Beside Christ sit Mary and John the Baptist. Also present on the cloud are the apostles, evangelists, and martyrs. On the earthly level stand the saints and delegates of the church such as Pope Julius II, Pope Sixtus IV, Savonarola, and Dante Alighieri, discussing transubstantiation. Above, angels float.
