About this work
A medallion portrait of the writer Justus Lipsius is placed on a stone arch. On either side the personifications of Philosophy and Politics depict the main subjects of his oeuvre. Next to the arch two portrait busts of ancient authors edited by Lipsius: Seneca and Tacitus. Next to them Minerva and Mercury, and the seated personifications of Virtue (left) and Prudence (right).
