About this work
This print belongs to a series of 139 woodcuts made in honour of Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I.They represent an idealized situation rather than an actual event. The procession showcases the emperor’s particular interests, including music. Master Artus, a talented musician who served at Maximilian’s court, stands out in the middle among other lute and viola da gamba players.
