About this work
Christ is led before Herod by soldiers. At the bottom of the margin is an ornament with putti and garlands. At the very bottom is a German text in two lines identifying the enthroned figure as the high priest Caiaphas: Caiphas spricht zu ... etc. Matth. rrpi. The scene is, however, generally known as Christ before Herod. The top edge of the print, with part of the round arch and the two shields with the electoral and ducal arms of Saxony, is cut off.
