About this work

The soldiers of Pilate have crowned the sitting Christ with a crown of thorns, put a mantle on him, and given him a scepter. Two soldiers press the crown with large thorns firmly onto Christ's head with two sticks. A man kneels before him while mockingly sticking out his tongue; another man lies flat on the ground with two dogs while watching laughing. In the background stand various men of the court. Against the wall top right hang two shields with the electoral and ducal arms of Saxony.
