About this work

Mercury leaning against a stone with an inscription, next to him a soldier on horseback. In the foreground sits on the left a woman with an open book and writing quill, on the right a mourning woman. Above this scene the depiction of a bombardment of a city from the sea (left) and an advancing army towards a besieged city (right). At the bottom activities for the preparation of an attack are depicted.
