About this work
The dead body of Christ, just taken from the cross, is supported by the mourning Mary, and John kneels beside her. Mary Magdalene kisses Christ's hand while Joseph of Arimathea holds the cloth with which he took Christ from the cross. Nicodemus stands ready to embalm the body. Two small shields top left bear the electoral and ducal arms of Saxony.
