About this work

Christ as Man of Sorrows sitting on the tomb. He holds his arms crossed before his chest with two instruments of the Passion, rod and whip, in his hands and a crown of thorns on his head. Saint Bernard kneels before Christ with folded hands. Before him lies a mitre. Between Christ and the saint a heart is depicted, pierced with an arrow. Top right the electoral and ducal coat of arms of Saxony are depicted on two shields.
