About this work
On the left stands John the Baptist, clad in an animal skin, in the wilderness among trees. His gesture indicates he preaches to the men, women and children sitting on the ground and standing among the trees. In the foreground lies a sleeping dog. In the upper right, in the tree, hang two shields bearing the electorate and duchy arms of Saxony.
