About this work
Portrait (bust) of Frederick III, also known as Frederick the Wise, Elector of Saxony, wearing a cap and a fur mantle. In the top left and right corners, the shields with the electoral and ducal coat of arms of Saxony are depicted. The shields have a border of scrollwork. On this copy, the tablet with the Latin inscription is missing below the portrait. From that original text it appears that the ruler was already deceased at the moment the portrait was made.
