About this work

An old blind man sits smoking a pipe on a chair and begs for money with an outstretched hat. His left foot rests on a stove, next to him lies a dog on the ground. In the margin a four-line verse in Dutch. Part of a series of prints of Amsterdam street figures around 1770.
