About this work

In a semicircular, classically designed room, Pilate washes his hands over a basin held by a servant. Meanwhile, Christ is led away by soldiers. This print is a counter-etching (contre-épreuve) of a print that is part of the unfinished print series 'The Great Passion', consisting of 7 scenes from the Passion narrative.
