About this work
Under a cloudy sky a commander has fallen from his horse and landed in the midst of a group of armed riders. On the left the Romans, with a flag bearing 'SPQR', and on the right Orientals. The helmet and weapon of the commander lie beside him on the ground, and from the sky God illuminates him, causing the cavalry of both camps to recoil. This print forms part of a six-part series on cavalry battles.
