About this work
The Roman field commander Germanicus stands together with his soldiers on the coast of the Chauci (between the Ems and the Elbe) and has his right hand and his head raised towards the sky. He laments the fate of his wrecked fleet. In the background the mast of a damaged sailing ship can be seen. Event from the year 17.
