About this work

Peter, full-length, in his hands a book and a key. In the background right it can be seen how Peter tries to walk on the water towards Christ and how he receives the key of the kingdom of heaven from Christ; in the background left it can be seen how Peter is crucified upside down. This print is part of a series of (probably) 16 prints, consisting of a title page and (probably) 15 portraits, depicting Christ, Mary and the apostles; it concerns a series of mirror-image copies of the so-called 'Great Apostles'.
