Portrait of the historian and minister François Valentijn at the age of 38, in an oval medallion, held by Minerva (science) and Faith (woman with a church building and a dove on her head). The portrait is surrounded by Eastern figures and books referring to his travels to Asia and the works he wrote about them. Below the image the name and details of the sitter in two lines in Latin. Below that two columns of four lines each with a poem in Latin.
