About this work

Portrait to the right of Pieter Rabus in an ornamental oval medallion. The portrait rests on a pedestal with a relief depicting several classicistic figures near a tombstone and a pond with swans. To the left of the portrait a putto with flowers and in his left hand a cord, with which he pulls back part of a curtain above the portrait. A snake bites at the flowers he drops. To the left in the background three dancing naked female figures are spied upon by two satyrs in a wood, to the right a view through to the city of Rotterdam. Below the image two lines in Latin.
