About this work
Bust of Lieve Geelvinck, burgomaster of Amsterdam and one of the directors of the United East India Company, in an oval medallion, held by the personification of Vigilance. She holds a staff with the All-Seeing Eye and to the right behind her stands a rooster. She rests with the portrait on a pedestal bearing the family coat of arms (among others two goldfinches) with fasces on both sides. On the pedestal his name and details in six lines in Dutch and below that an eight-line verse in Dutch. To the left of the portrait the coat of arms of the city of Amsterdam, to the top right the flag of the VOC.
