About this work

Representation of daybreak above a landscape with houses. Stars disappear, an owl flies away, the sky becomes lighter in the distance. Above and below this print Latin and French texts in letterpress. This sheet is part of the emblem series 'Life of Mary in Emblems'. The first state of this series includes, besides a title page and 26 emblems, also three sheets with hymns to Mary in letterpress without images.
