About this work

Representation of two shepherds defending their flock of sheep tooth and nail: one kills a wolf, the other chases a thief. This sheet is part of the emblem series 'Monastic Life in Emblems'. The second state of this series comprises, in addition to an illustrated title page and 26 emblems, another title page and a dedication sheet, both in letterpress without images.
