About this work

Depiction of two shepherds defending their flock of sheep with hand and tooth: one kills a wolf, the other chases a thief. Above and below this print Latin and French texts in type. This sheet is part of the emblem series 'Monastic Life in Emblems'. The second state of this series includes, besides an illustrated title page and 26 emblems, a title page and a dedication page, both in text only.
