About this work

Allegorical representation with, in the center, a masked monk holding a double cross and a burning torch in his hands. He has his arm around a tree. Around this figure, a group of clergy has gathered around a hole in the ground from which smoke rises. In the foreground, bags of money, fruit, and crosses lie on the ground. Another monk kneels by the hole and points a woman to a dagger. In the background, a city is besieged and set on fire.
