About this work
When Pygmalion, king of Tyre, discovers that his wife Astarbe is keeping a lover named Joazar, he very much wants to poison this man. The king ultimately becomes the victim of his own plan and lies poisoned on the ground in the image. Behind her stands Astarbe who gives her lover Joazar Pygmalion's ring, hoping he will become the next king. Illustration made for book 8 from "Adventures of Telemachus", written by François de Fénélon.
