About this work
Mary and Joseph, seated by a ruin, show their newborn child to the Three Kings or Wise Men from the East and their retinue. Below the image four Latin verse lines. The model for this print is part of a series of six prints with scenes from the early life of Mary. They are called the 'Masterpieces' because Goltzius imitated the work of several illustrious predecessors in them.
